Planning your Vietnam holiday can be challenging. It’s a big country with so much to see and do, plus there are many different weather patterns in Vietnam.
Thankfully, Saigon has a relatively moderate climate so it is a great Vietnam year-round destination! When planning your Vietnam holiday, we suggest keeping in mind two things for your Saigon stay: weather and holidays. In this KIX Scooter Tours blog, we share our month-by-month tips for planning your Saigon visit.
January – February
January and February are our favorite months to visit Saigon! The climate is dry and although the temperatures reach up to 34C degrees (95F) in the day time. The evenings are pleasant, dropping to 22-25C (70-80F).
Travelers are flocking to the main sites so there will be extra crowds, but KIX scooter tours will give you a taste of the local culture.
It is worth noting that the lunar new year holiday (called Tet in Vietnamese) falls during this period. It’s a brilliant time to experience a local festival but many tourist-focused restaurants and bars will be closed.
KIX Saigon scooter tours take a pause for a few days over Tet, but just check our booking page to check availability!
March – April
During March to April, the temperature rises a bit and the crowds thin out. There is little rain and the evenings drop down to the 27-33 C degree range (80-90 F), resulting in a warm but uncrowded city. We suggest joining our Saigon After Dark tour to cool off after the day, enjoy a few drinks and get a taste of local nightlife!
If you travel at the end of April, be sure to stay around for the 30th which is Vietnam Reunification Day. This holiday celebrates the reunion of South and North Vietnam in 1975 and features parades and public performances.
June – September
These three months are referred to as the ‘rainy season’ however it is still a great time to visit Saigon! Why, you may ask? The sudden but short rains help to clear the air and keep the temperatures down, so the city takes on a cooler, fresh feeling in these months.
KIX Saigon scooter tours still run rain or shine! We provide high quality ponchos, and, should it start raining during the ride, we just pull over, pop on the poncho and continue on – just like the locals do! It adds an extra adventure to the adventure!
These months are also when one of Vietnam’s more unique festivals takes place: The Hungry Ghost festival! Based on the lunar calendar, the date changes year to year and features a wonderful glimpse of local culture.
During this multi-day Vietnam festival, locals prepare huge feasts to feed the spirits of their deceased ancestors, and go to temples to make offerings in hopes of warding off angry ghosts. They also refrain from traveling or starting major projects.
October – December
October is a tricky month to predict, as off-shore storms can bring heavy rains. However it is rarely enough to cause great changes to your Saigon holiday. By mid-November the rains fade away and temperatures remain moderate.
If you travel to Saigon early during this period, you’re likely to find great deals on hotels and few crowds. The high season commences in December. While there’s a lot of tourists, KIX Saigon Scooter Tours take you off the beaten track to see Saigon from a more local, more authentic perspective.
